So, here we are with the first actual published post. There is enough history behind this to make a 30 minute "10 year anniversary" YouTube video with a 60 minute Patron exclusive cut content portion. That history isn't loads of research I did and a painstaking meticulous combing through this piece to make sure it was polished off and ready to ship (there's probably some grammar mishaps sprinkled in here to back that claim). Honest report on effort is a sleep deprived evening, some quick brainstorming, and spending more time hitting the backspace button than an human reasonably should.

So if that history isn't effort, what might it be instead? If the title tipped you off to the answer being overthinking the set up and not doing any of the actual work, you would be correct (and painfully so).

A Smidge of Context

I was on the phone with a very good friend of mine when this idea came to me (you know who you are Luma). We were talking about a wide range of subjects (as conversations tend to go) and eventually landed on the topic of logos. He has his own projects in the works and I was mentioning starting this blog when for inexplicable reasons, the fact that my logo doesn't matter yet finally clicked in my stubborn noggin. So with that,

You have this post..

I have tried so many things I'm not even sure I could properly list them all

But I'll try anyways

  • Squarespace
  • Webflow
  • YouTube videos related to these and other website builders
  • I have a podcast hosting site set up existing somewhere out there (I'll be back soon my child)
  • Got a cool little Insta 360 camera and DJI Bluetooth lav mic to make those "episodes"
  • YouTube channel made
  • Instagram for it all
  • More YouTube videos watched on other topics related to content
  • Hours of gaming recorded and deleted
  • Scripts written
  • List could, and might, go on

And despite the amount of creators I have seen say "just start with anything and iterate from there" it just wouldn't click in my mind. I would try to make the crappy version and wouldn't get past it because I would either find the end product too insufferable, or I would focus to heavily on where the thing would live. Following the dilemma of where the thing would live, would be the question of how will it all be presented. In essence, I was focused on the cups and plates for my coffee shop before even figuring out where it would be or even what coffee I'm going to serve (cart before the horse if you will).

The Challenge/Realization

Since the ship of "Do a thing" finally found a dock that wasn't on fire to land in, we have this website. An experimental space to dump a bunch of my ideas in, write about whatever, and sort out the details of presentation later on. Somehow, it took until I was nearly 28 to finally understand that logos can change. The human mind is a peculiar place.
